My Lovely Garden … Mon Joli Jardin

No matter the language, my garden is my paradise. To watch the lovely birds that nest in the trees and bushes. The bees, butterflies are such a joy to see.

JaneE Kat in the sun, learning again how to drum and more about beans.

I have never given JaneE a bath and it seems that she prefers showers, what did I know?  My darling little girl (who will be 22 in December!) loves sitting next to my sump pump washtub fountain and in the process has a little shower.  Perfect in the hot summer days that we are experiencing now.  Not sure if you can see the tiny droplets of water, reflective in the sun .. but she is covered with water!  Cool Cat!

603

She is mesmerized with water – outside – here she is sipping at water that overflowed when I was watering some beans …

606

Those Portuguese bush dry beans are prolific …very sturdy plants.  I’ll have lots of beans for soups and stews this winter.  Or just boil, mash and put lots of butter on a bowl of them!   (with some stewed tomatoes!)

605

Speaking of these Portuguese beans being sturdy, last week one of them, fully laden with flowers, had been nearly snapped off .. whether from an animal at night or perhaps it wasn’t well supported.  I tried to mend it together by wrapping that green adhesive garden tape around it and tying the plant to a stick of bamboo.  Somehow, it worked, the energy continued flowing and the plant flourishes.  I’m so happy.

709

I had saved about 30 seeds of the Ram’s Horn bean from last year.  Planted them all and one actually grew!  So I separated it from where it was growing – intertwined along with a Scarlet Red Runner bean and attached it to a separate string and here it grows.   Looking forward to seeing the fruit from this one!

604

Some squash growing in a pot.  They are shallow rooted so I knew they would flourish in a container.  Now they are growing, long vines are being trained up some lengths of wood.   Flowering away .. the bees are very attentive to the flowers.

602

The magic of a seed morphing into a plant that provides food for the table never loses intrigue for me and it never will – I’ll always be amazed and grateful.

601

Last year I noticed a clematis ( Jackmanii ) that grew up a little arbour in the yard was rapidly becoming infested with mildew.  So I simply cut it all down and it regrew.   This year the same thing happened so I cut the plant away and look at all the new growth.  In a week or so, the vine will have crept over the arbour and will start flowering again!

600

And now about the drumming!  http://www.drumvictoria.com/

Jordan Hanson started teaching African drumming in Victoria over 15 years ago .. and he has brought in quite a variety of teachers over the years.

I’d begun at that time and life kept interfering with other things so I wasn’t able to commit to steady classes.

Now that I am (happily) retired I can now devote time to things that bring joy and energy into my life.  One of these is drumming.  I’ve been interested in drumming since I was a teen and had my first set of bongos!!   That was in the hippy generation.  I never did learn how to play them but did enjoy just trying to make a good sound.

So last week I enrolled for a series of workshops that involved Balafon – here is a link that explains the instrument: http://www.african-music-safari.com/african-balafon-history.html

I purchased a used balafon and have it set up so that DH & I can just play the soothing musical tones .. it isn’t in tune but sounds great anyway!

And the drums!  There are a variety of them, from Djembe, stick, and it’s fun learning how to play them.  Jordan is a fantastic teacher and is able to show us as a group, how to learn the intricacies.  http://www.drumvictoria.com/

I do love the energy and his drumming notes show that “even just a few minutes of drumming a day can contribute to a feeling of well-being and can really improve playing skills.”   Getting lost in the rhythm is meditational and relaxing.  Time literally flies by.

It is fun returning to drumming after being away for so long.

And soon I’ll be revisiting another interest from years ago .. clogging!  double up — double down .. cloggers know this one!  An Appalachian instructor demonstrated this in a workshop in Duncan years ago and I can still hear his accented voice as he led the group in a routine.  So I’ll be dusting off my tap shoes with the double set of metal clickers and putting them on once again, in a few weeks to relearn the rhythms of the dance.

And more interests being revisited again .. but now it’s time to get on with the day!

🙂

Tenacity of beans, happy little Moonbeam yarrow and blue skies above!

Moonbean Yarrow .. this is my favourite of all yarrows!  I bought a number of them on sale, the flowers were finished and the plants looked like they were done.  I potted them up, gave them some EM and voila!  Blooming away – so cheerful in the garden!  One day I will plant them randomly and watch happily as they grow in abandonment (at our next place!)

500

Inspiration comes from watching the tenacious growth of beans … they seek structure in order to grow upwards.  These are the Spanish Musica beans.

501

I’d missed these long S. Musicas as I’ve been trying to pick them when they are half this size!  Still delicious though.  Amazing beans.  I’ll have lots for next years plants as the vines are growing way beyond my reach, even with a ladder.  So the ones I can’t reach will be great for next year!

513

I love you two, little beans.   Despite barriers in their path, they continued to grow around them.   Another lesson of inspiration.514

As always, blessed with sky art above us.512

I had purchased a packet of these nasturtiums, only about 8 in the package.  So I planted them hither and yon in the garden.  This is the first flowering one .. I noticed this by chance yesterday and had to kneel on the ground to take this photo.

516

Oh joy .. my favourite bean is flowering .. soon the beans will be there!517

Hmmm .. the little Chickadee seems to be noticing the low level of seeds in the feeder .. must add a bit more.  I love how they announce their arrival with short little Chickadee chirps.509

The pal of the Chickadee — the Nuthatch swiftly chooses a sunflower seed — then flies away to feast on a nearby tree.

508

Loving how the beans are growing up the gigantic bamboo stake!  They find their way without my guidance (too high for me to reach, anyway!)

511

It was the texture and design of the back of this bush bean that caught my eye .. the symmetry and beauty of nature’s design.

504

Thanks to the birds .. they drop the occasional sunflower seed and I enjoy the beauty of the sunflowers.   I thank them for their gardening skills!!  🙂

505

ha ha ha .. I had no idea that the beans would grow so much .. leaving me just enough space to walk through the mini-tunnels of live plants.   Next time I will leave more space.  Who knew those tiny seeds would be so lush??  Not me, that is for sure.  They get lots of music and love (plus EM and llama manure) to grow their best.

510

One last photo.  I tugged at the outreaching stem of this Scarlet Red Runner bean .. it was very strong .. not a delicate plant.  Has to be strong to survive.

503

That was part of my garden day yesterday.

And then I went drumming  … but that is another story.

🙂  On with this day.

Tiny bees taking little naps, doves on telephone poles and those crazy beans keep on growing.

Joyous abandonment and seeking out the sun.  I was sitting outside with a mug of Yorkshire Tea on a sunny weekday afternoon last week .. this little sunflower caught my eye.  It was the leaning of the stem and it seemed as if the side leaves were reaching up to the skies in a happy pose of joy and so I just had to take a pic.  I feel like that when I’m happy so maybe that is why it resonated with me.

400a

Yesterday I spent some time wandering around my fantastic bean plants, collecting some for lunch..and was quite surprised to see these Cherokee Trail of Tears beans …honestly .. the beans are just prolific.  The growth ranges from many flowers (they are like mini-bouquets, quite pretty) to the tiny little beans and in the middle of all this .. the ready to pick beans.  Gotta love beans.416
To garden is to learn – we gardeners are aware of that.  Lessons are taught and observations are made.  This one shows the sheer tenacity of the plants seeking structure for growth.  This is a squash plant going through that process.  See how orderly nature is – the coiled tendrils are perfect – except for that wonky one .. it might have been stretchy a little too far.  Still it is beautiful.

409

Bounty from the garden a few days ago.  Thank you ..  my lovely garden ..415

This is a bush bean .. dry I think.   This pod is very tiny, yet look at the seeds within.  I’ll let them mature and collect for the winter.

412

Several bush bean plants had fallen over, their roots were fully exposed .. yet .. they continued to grow and were producing lovely beans!!  So I gently straightened them up, covered the roots with soil and they are happily growing away.  Can’t stop beans from growing it seems.

413

This little bee is quite striking .. working very industriously and time for a little rest.

411

This is such a very tiny little bee – I was just passing by this malva plant when it caught my eye and so I knelt down to take a closer look.  It also was taking a little break.   Do you think that bees get a little tired and need their naps?  I think so.

404

So many flowers …it must be a little overwhelming to have such a job as a bee does!

405

This blue Hibiscus plant has another blossom.  I hadn’t really paid much attention to this plant, other than to make sure it had enough water and so far I’ve seen two beautiful flowers.  Now I’m wondering if it has been flowering a lot and I just hadn’t noticed?  tsk tsk.406

A little geranium I’d planted in a cedar pot ..

407

I’d planted squash seeds randomly in pots and they are flowering like mad and producing tiny fruits.  The seeds are from squash harvested last year.  I think there will be an interesting assortment of squash to pick as they most likely won’t be true to the original seed but only time will tell.

410

This reminds me .. time to go outside!!

401

A few nights ago I heard some cooing, thought it was an owl.  Had heard this from time to time and couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. Very soothing sound.  Mystery solved when I looked high up, atop a telephone pole.  Two doves!

402

It seemed as if they could see me (I took a lot of pics) and then the grooming started.

403

A few things to do and then it’s outside for more discoveries .. in my lovely (work in progress) garden!

🙂

A Few More Pics of the Mineral & Gem Show & Back to the Garden!

So here are the rest of the pics I took on Friday, at the 2nd Annual Victoria Gem & Mineral show at the Pearkes Arena .. when the light shines through this, it is stunning!

300

Who knew there was such a diversity of quartz …

301

I could have asked how these were shaped – but that would have taken the mystery away.  The skull to the left of the pink quartz was intriguing.

308

Purple Haze (reminds me of the Purple Haze lavender farm at Sequim!  I was all set to go there but my passport had expired .. wah .. )302

For some reason, this made me hungry!  It just seemed to be so edible, like a slice of bread or a cookie.

303

Lots of love and  $$$$$  tied up in minerals …

307

304

305

Now these really caught my eye .. at first I thought that these were sculpted metal .. .however, they are created with varying gauges of fine silver and gold wires.  So very beautiful .. I tried to take some closeup photos of several “works in progress” but couldn’t get clear views with my camera.  This young artist is fabulous .. I couldn’t find a web site for Drala Designs … but there is an e-mail if you would like to contact him:  icjakobll@gmail.com  .  Since I’m always curious and always seeking knowledge, I searched for the meaning of “Drala” :  A Tibetan word, “drala” means “without aggression”. When you invoke drala, you begin to experience basic goodness reflected everywhere – in yourself, in others, and in the entire world.

Here is one pic that is clear .. showing some wire in progress.

314

Such beauty ..

313

Bamboo, Bead & Bling …love that store.  Amazing free jewellery classes: http://www.bamboobeadsandbling.com/

312

I’m not into gold but if I was, here is a bargain! 311

Sigh .. and it is back to the garden .. to watch  my beans growing.  These are Spanish Musica – delicious and a “bazillion” beans on each plant.  I plan to just keep serving these up and not freezing them this year!  (well, maybe a few!)

316

It’s been a bumper crop of fruit in Victoria .. we have 3 different apple trees and I’ve been freezing chunks of apple (washed, put briefly in a sea salt water mix) spread on parchment paper on a tray in the freezer and then bagging them for tossing in a roast in the winter.  And lots of applesauce, yum, yum!!

317

Bzzzzeeeee ….I will look at this photo in the winter and dream of these happy summer days in the garden.

318

319

My s-i-l gave me this Irish dirt years ago and I must use it in a pot .. one of these days .. there was a packet of seeds somewhere .. .I’ll have to have a search for it.   Anyway, just another gardening moment .. Sometimes I have to just stop and look at what I’ve been doing … getting lost in the rhythm that is creativity ..

322

My darling little JaneE Kat .. she will be 21 in December!  Little Garden Kat …

315

Yesterday was quite a windy day …really strong gusts continuously . . a sky shot to say “salut”

320

The joy and magic of a garden is so fun .. it seems that one day I’m planting a seed and just a short time later, as in my lovely beans .. there are 8 foot plus vines growing up to the sky and I’m surrounded by the vital energy that surrounds them.

Speaking of energy, a few years ago I heard about music for plants .. how it helps them grow.  I believe this and think my music (that I always play) in the garden affects everything that grows.   A good subject for tomorrow!

🙂

More pics from the Victoria Gem & Mineral Show at the Pearkes Arena

I have always loved beads and anything that sparkles .. .DH has always said that I must have been a crow in a former life .. that might be true!

The show started on Friday and is on till today .. although I would like to go back, I think it best if I don’t …I made some excellent purchases on Friday and have enough (not really, but … ).   Anyway, I sure had some interesting discussions with some of the artists and surprised myself with the quantity of photos that I took.

So here are some to share (and there are more for tomorrow!)

This young lady sells a variety of items, which include cabochons, created by her father in Mexico .. I really like her earthy display< and I had purchased a few items from her:

220a

Here is a closer view:

220

219

Amazing variety … so many that I just did not know which one I would buy .. so many to choose from.  (her Etsy name is in the photo above, if you would like to search for her products).

218

Aren’t these just so very delightful!  This is the “Earth Meets Spirit” table – the artist was so very helpful and she actually weaves these delicate designs out of polymer clay!  Incredibly beautiful.

221

And this sculpture from her table was fantastic!

223

Here is another view:  She made this octopus for her mother .. isn’t it just amazing .. and I hadn’t noticed till now that she incorporated beautiful seashells into the design.

222

I bought an assortment of pieces of minerals & petrified wood from her and she very kindly gave me an extra piece – so I will enjoy making my purchases into jewellery for myself!   I love meeting kind people .. such good energy.

210

This table was interesting … The vendor explained to me that the seeds have a variety of lines on them .. beginning with just a few .. all the way up to (I think) 20 plus lines.  The more lines, the more value or energy, I believe.  The couple are from Vancouver and his wife creates the jewellery (if one can call this jewellery, I’m not sure).   And when his lovely wife returned to the table I said (can you believe this) so this is the wife then.  OMG .. I do not speak like that.  Not surprised that she didn’t hang around to chat.  Was I channeling someone from back East?  Another argh moment in my life.

224

The vendor artfully arranged everything so I could take a photo .. he was so sweet!  http://www.shopinnercircle.ca is their website for more items.225

I had a learning visit with this artist .. her card shows a website which has been replaced with “www.outdesigns.rocks” if you care to visit and see more.

215

See the beautiful rock in the centre, the one with many layers and has a rose tint?

216

It is a Fireworks obsidion- from looking at the outside, would you have guessed the amazing beauty within?  (like people, right!)

217

We had an interesting discussion about sculpting, how to look at things, ideas.  It was very fun.  By now my creative mind is twirling with possibilities!  Power surge.

Now this vendor, Alex Kuznetson was a real gem!  I purchased some fossilized items, he carefully wrote the name down of each type, wrapped them individually and put them all together into  a paper shopping bag for me.  He treated me like a customer who spent many hundreds of dollars, yet my purchases were meagre.   I really liked this interesting and elegant guy … he was so sharing of information to myself and another shopper!

Anyway, I will just list the photos that I took of his tables .. enjoy …

So I still have more photos for tomorrow!

It feels so energizing to blog again …I’ve missed it and the joy it brings to me when I just let my thought go for a flight.   Although I’ve loved to write since I was a kid, it’s been like a decadent pleasure that I haven’t always allowed myself to experience.

A friend and I took a writing course years ago, no procrastination, participants had to sit around a big round table and write something.  We had 30 minutes.   I was scared and excited about the actual writing.  Wow, I thought … I’m actually going to write something for real, no putting the activity away for another day.

I have the story with me somewhere in my writing supplies.. it was about a couple of young kids fleeing something at a circus.  As I wrote, I was there, it was a captivating experience and I totally loved being there.

The instructor told us that writing bring out the answers to questions we have in our lives.  It is all there .. we just have to write, write and write some more.  How rich is that!  The treasures within.

I have many more things to write about .. my love of music and learning how to properly play the violin, my attempts at art, my love of creating funky jewellery with wire and beads, my soap making ventures.   Creating via sewing.  So many interests enrich my life.

Anyway, here it is .. a sunny Sunday morning and time to get on with this day.

Computers, argh. Amazing artists at The second annual Victoria Gem & Mineral Show!

ha ha .. I actually wrote the “rock and bean show” and corrected that.  Do I have beans on my mind or what!

A few days ago, I trundled our poor ole computer over to have it looked at.  Turns out, at 10 years old, it had outlived it’s lifespan by 5 years so we actually had a good run.  Time for a newer model so I went that route. And blithely forgot what I go through every single time we upgrade and thus spent 2 days working on “where is that **%” program .. where is my music .. etc., etc., I won’t bore you with the details.  After a few visits back and forth, trying to explain what I was missing and where was it .. the experts at Mother Computers had our computer running seamlessly.   Yegads they are patient.   So we love that store!

Anyway, that storm went away so it was time for me to have a fun visit to the “second annual Victoria Gem & Mineral Show” at the Pearkes Arena.  It was so much fun that I actually went for awhile, returned home to play in the garden and went back to the show.  Glad I did as I enjoyed talking with the artists and came home with such good ideas for my creations to try and implement.   That is how creativity happens.  Travelling around doesn’t hurt either, but that isn’t in the picture so I’m glad the show is here.

This is rather artistic and was an accident .. I like it though.  The next photo shows what it was meant to be.

200

Happy accident .. I think I prefer the one above.  Anyway, lovely garden at the Pearkes Arena.

201
Sweet little JaneE Kat enjoying the shade on this hot day:

202

My climbing beans provide shade and a place of mystery and privacy in the yard .. loving this.  204

I will never ever have a structured garden .. they will always be changeable and different every year .. and see how I’ve added a variety of structures for the beans to grow up .. a garden with personality.   The best thing for growing climbers is a section of cattle fencing .. perhaps in our next home.  For now this is perfect .. 203

And now on to the Gem show .. I took so many pictures and want to share what I learned so will continue tomorrow .. for now ..Lovely use of driftwood, very artistic.

215

Millions of crystals in this one ..213

I bought some phantom quartz ..that was the reason for my second visit!  I bought the smaller one at my first visit.  At home, after I read up on the qualities of the phantom quartz,  I had to return to get another one!  And lucky me .. the one I chose was on sale (honest, that is not why I chose this one . .I just liked it).  Mine happened to be grey phantoms.  There are a variety of colours:  http://www.healingwithcrystalshtml.net.au/phantom-crystals.207

At another table, I bought these (more photos from this table tomorrow) .. the seller was originally from Russia and lives in Calgary.  He told me that a lot of artifacts are being found due to climate change.  And that China is taking truckloads of these away.

These are some of the items I purchased at Earth Meets Spirit (and she gave me one free, what a sweetie!)  More photos tomorrow .. just wanted to share these now.

I think this is an amethyst .. it sparkled so I had to have it:

208

The one on the left is Serpentine (I bought this at the Sequim Lavender Faire last year.  I spoke with a sculpture (yegads, you know, the person who sculpted not the actual sculpture)  at the Gem show, who told me that it had been tumbled and would be easy to carve (wow .. I am going to learn about carving) and that it has saponification properties!  The chunk on the right is “slag” .. glass found in our back yard left over from a glass factory that used to be on our property before the house was built. Our house is circa 1941 .. so I guess the factory would have been here 1930’s.  I have lots of this beautiful glass and treasure it.  I was told it could be tumbled.  One artist shone a light through it and it seemed to come alive with brilliance.

206

And one more photo to end the day. I’m still in awe that my bean plants have so many beans on them .. it seems only a few weeks ago I planted them.  Now, not only do they add interest, shade and privacy in the yard… they are supplying me with food!   This question mark bean was growing around a stake, it was determined and would not give up.  Like me.

205

So .. it’s been another hot and sunny day here and time for supper …

🙂

Istanbul 70 – Turkish Psycho-Disco

How do I say “wow” in Turkish? Beautiful everything here … I would like to purchase this music and will go to I-Tunes to see if it is available. It would be wonderful to listen to this in my garden!!!

Istanbul 70 - Turkish Psycho-Disco

You might have seen this fantastic series selling out quick in your local record store. If, like me, you weren’t quite quick or canny enough to grab one of the limited vinyl copies in person, fear not, a CD has been issued and can be got online at the ever-reliable giant sell-everything stores (not plugging any particular one here!). The picture here is of a record sleeve because, honestly, I love the vinyl and always want it, but the CD features a photo of a van on the front.

These are old Turkish nuggets edited and pushed around with the more leftfield 21stC clubs in mind by a digger nut named Baris K who clearly knows what he is doing. From three 12″s there are a variety of tunes which will appeal in different times and places. Personal favorites of mine, for their sheer trippiness, are Derdiyoklar’s “Yaz Gazeteci” which…

Has it really been a year??? Oh, and the magic is still in the garden. And .. today I went to the Rock & Gem Show at Pearkes Arena, Victoria, BC

Well.. my goodness gracious me.  (I’ve always liked that sentence and it seems appropriate to use it today).  I think that it is a line that was used many times in the older movies and it has a kind of gracious, civilized, yet .. homey feeling I think.

I just love blogging . .it’s been a very creative outlet for me which I began when I retired and that is about 5 or so years ago.  A time in my life when I could begin focusing my energies on things that I like doing.

Gardening is number one of course and in my first year that is what I did.  I started a small business “The Dog Walking Gardener” and actually worked for a few people and then I realized that I’d never in my life had this time for me so why am I trying to fill it up with working .. so I stopped that.  And worked on transforming our yard into a funky organic place and this has been ongoing and will stop when we move.  And then I will start again.

For those who love gardening .. and here I’ll speak for myself on this, cause there are many reasons why people garden.  I should really say .. for me .. gardening equals a strong reconnection to the earth, a grounding, as it were.  A way of channeling into my most inner, special, creative being.  I’m not being spiritual here.  I’m just stating the facts.

Today, I worked in my garden in the late afternoon .. it’s been terribly hot here and the sun has been very strong.  So when I went outside, with my mug of Yorkshire Tea .. I was just really wanting to get some good energy for moving things around.  I started out with our little JaneE Kat .. she’ll be 21 in December!  She sits in the stairway that leads to the basement, waiting for me to go outside so I can put treats on the pathway for her!  She is reward orientated.

Here is JaneE in our motorhome when we travelled to Hope, BC, to visit the Vancouver Soaring Club .. so beautiful and more about that later.  Anyway, she is getting quite comfortable with being in the motorhome, as far as she is concerned ..all that is outside is like a tv!

006 005

Then, mug in hand, I moved around the yard, listening to the most beautiful soothing music from my IPod .. and I was watering another section of parched yard at the time.  I drifted backwards in time to when I was little … when I started a circular patch of sunflowers from a 5 cent packet of seeds, into our hard packed back yard.  I clearly remember the 5 cents and the happy sunflowers on the packet of seed .. and I have no idea where the packet came from .. I just seemed to have it.  The seeds grew and were beautiful and cheerful.  I was going to do that this year but somehow .. it didn’t happen .. there is always next year.

Here is sweet little JaneE, sleeping away on the outside stairs .. yegads how I love her.

001

Thanks to the hungry birds at the feeder, though, there are lots of sunflowers sprouting throughout the yard .. so I guess, in reality, they are making my dream come through!

Anyway .. it was a most beautiful chunk of time, watering the plants, listening to the music, drifting back in time and being extremely grateful that I have this bit of paradise that I have created .. that reflects my inner self and a space where I can just revel in beauty and appreciate the energy that comes from the growing plants.

For I have become quite enamored of beans!  The climbers that I planted.  The tiny seeds that I nurtured, which grow most magically into magnificent plants that twirl above my head .. reaching always for a place to grow.   Isn’t it so humbling that a tiny seed contains absolutely everything that is needed to morph into a plant that will give me good food.  Everyday I go outside to check on them.  The Annie Jackson Pole Beans, Spanish Musica, Cherokee Trail of Tears and my most favourite bean, which I call “my favourite bean”.  It’s heritage and special and I forget the name.  One day I’ll look on Salt Spring Island Seeds or from Annapolis Seeds at:  http://www.annapolisseeds.com  as those are the two places where I’ve ordered seeds from.  Excellent quality.  Crispy long pods that crunch when you bite into them!

This photo is for me to look at in the winter so I can remember how lovely it is to watch the beans growing on my makeshift garden ..

016

It’s been a busy day … and more about that another time.  About computers and the time spent getting new ones to behave, many trips to the shop.

Bees and sunflowers ..

010

Smiling sunflowers .. same flower one day apart ..

004 003

This rose was dying until I gave it some water .. like a little love ..it works miracles.

011

A lovely bit of fluff on some ornamental grass .. ethereal and so sweet .

012

Comfrey flowers for the bees ..
019

Squash growing in some sieved compost ..what to do .. I have tried repotting one of them .. they have grown so I must try to let them grow .. in another area as there is no drainage in this container!

018This is a great year for fruit in our city .. and here is an example from one of our trees!

015

Picked this up at Michaels last week .. excellent!

007

A seed planted in a pot and lookee here!

017

Scarlett Red Runner Beans .. this was a surprise plant .. I had looked at it one day and saw it twining upwards, perhaps a forgotten seed from last year and suddenly … beans!  They were delicious!
009

Spanish Musica beans .. very tall pole beans ..

008

Little Anna in one of the apple trees ..

014

And I’ve been spending so very much time this year with creative endeavours.  Today, this included two trips to the Rock and Bead show at the Pearkes Arena.  I spoke with such creative people and took lots of photos, which I will share tomorrow.

Lived in a creative manner .. life is stupendous and amazing and energizing.

🙂

till tomorrow ….

It’s a Beautiful Day in a Beautiful Summer

It is a beautiful sunny day here and time is just flying by!  Literally!

Unless I get up at 5 am (not happening) I seem to take “forever” to do my household chores before I can run outside!    I think life would be simpler living in a minimalist manner.  Looking around at all my “stuff” which I simply cannot live without .. I wonder what life would be like.

Having read many articles on minimalist living I find there is an attraction.

Life is simpler and energizing.  Having uncluttered over and over and over again .. I do enjoy the feeling of empty space in my living area.

However, ahem .. having just come from my craft room .. I think it is easier said than done.

There are my watercolour and acrylics, paints, books, pens, brushes.  I do have fun from time to time playing around with that.

There is my huge glass collection.  I’d spend untold shopping trips rounding up glass items that attracted me.   Then I made way too many glass totems .. sold some of them.  Vowed I’d stop that and I even had everything boxed up, set aside, waiting either to have a garage sale or take them to a thrift shop.   Then someone admired them and bought quite a number of them.

sigh.

So I went shopping again.  What is with me.  I love creating them and do love how everything comes together.  Plus I’ve been playing around with my beads and making glass garden bling.   And faerie decorations.  What am I going to do with them?   I’ll work on that.  Weekend craft shows are out due to our life style.

I think I will just decide not to decide right now.  There, that feels better.

Anyway … I’ve been having a wonderful summer .. enjoying the magic of peas, beans, squash seeds morphing from a single seed to the most amazing plants.  I’ve been taking so many pictures and will post them.

There .. that’s another thing!  I love writing away…. letting my thoughts flow .. my fingers flying across the keyboards.  Except, there is this time thing … time to spend in the garden, time to fly with my DH up in the skies ..time spent all day and evening being busy, creative, and somehow I really miss this time when I just relax at the keyboards and enjoy the words appearing on the screen.  Decadent time to fly away and chatter on and on in a away that gives me energy and gratefulness for my life.

Well .. its’ time for me to run along and get some shopping done and then I can run outside and play in the yard.  I’m creating a lot of changes in the yard.  Bought 4 huge Yew trees and in the process have been digging up a side garden and creating a nice privacy area for our yard.

Sure takes a long of energy though.   Creative energy.  You know the kind .. where you wander outside, knowing there have to be changes made .. unsure where to start.   Then the first step …. moving potted plants .. digging up plants, creating space for other plants.

The second day things get better.  The third day .. things are taking shape.  Ideas are happening.  Joy builds up in the air and there is that “aha” moment … where I really do feel that what is happening in the reshifting of the soil and plants is going along nicely.

Now the fourth day .. I will go outside in a few hours and just spend a little time … dreaming, moving plants, shifting compost (oh, lovely rich compost that I just sifted out a few days ago).

But for now .. off I go!

And here is a photo that I took in June … it’s how I feel right now …happy !
