My Lovely Garden … Mon Joli Jardin

No matter the language, my garden is my paradise. To watch the lovely birds that nest in the trees and bushes. The bees, butterflies are such a joy to see.

My garlic crop is growing very well, and so are my potatoes .. happy days

Thursday, May 30, 2013

My garlic crop is growing so very nicely, thanks to the chopped oak leaf mulch, the seaweed (that D & I gathered through the seasons!) and the EM (magic stuff, really).

The hardnecks are just gigantic and I’ve been harvesting the scapes .. some of which I’ve chopped up and put in the freezer for later stir-fries and some I’ve made into pesto .. oh, my goodness .. very garlic-y!   And really, the scapes have grown so early on this crop .. I’m sure that last year that they didn’t arrive till much later.

IMGP2016Stepping back . .here is a view of my garlic crop .. I’ve planted them in  rectangles this year, and should have made the paths between them wider than I did .. guess I got a little greedy in wanting to plant more garlic!

IMGP2036

A little Golden Crowned Sparrow was walking through the garlic forest ..

IMGP1624

I am so looking forward to harvesting this crop …

IMGP1354

Finding tiny objects from the seaweed .. so I decided to decorate the garlic leaves .. pretty, hey?

IMGP1356

The great, ah, scape .. ha ha

IMGP1844

A little Robin goes hunting in the garlic forest …

IMGP2082

I mixed up a batch of garlic scape pesto .. no recipe .. just roughly chopped up the scapes, tossed into the trusty Braun food processor, added lots of olive oil, sunflower seeds, slivered almonds .. finely grated Parmesan cheese … yummmmmmm… very delicious.  Using an ice-cream scoop, soon filled a parchment covered cookie sheet .. into the freezer for a while .. and then ..

IMGP2263

Filled up a ziplock bag and in the freezer .. ready to toss into soups, stews, spaghetti, sandwiches .. sheer heaven ..

IMGP2264

Young Anna’s … so very sweet ..

IMGP1657

Welcome visitors .. I just know these babies have hatched somewhere in our little forested yard ..

IMGP1650

My deluxe greenhouse .. an airplane windshield .. so very perfect …

IMGP1856(1)

I’ve planted these coffee sacks with potatoes … interesting to see how many potatoes I will get.  There are also some volunteer potatoes that I missed digging out .. so happily I will have many potatoes this year.  I heard about growing potatoes in burlap bags, so this is my version of that idea.  I put the bags inside sturdy garbage bags, with holes punched in the bottom for drainage.  And as the plants grow, I’ll unroll the tops and add more soil.

IMGP2017As a matter of fact .. that is what I am going to do right now .. change into my gardening clothes and run .. well. … .first I”ll brew some more tea and then I’ll rush outside!!

🙂

I proudly marched in the anti-monsanto march in Victoria, B.C.

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

A lovely rainy day here in Victoria, B.C.  Good for the gardens and wow my garden is growing great!  I’ve been harvesting the scapes even before they are curling around .. so impatient, I know, but the scape keeps on growing, doing its thing .. so I have more to harvest.

My pal D and I went to the big anti-Monsanto march last Saturday .. it was quite important for us to join in this event.  As you can see .. the skies were beautiful ..

01

Many interesting signs ..

15

Ok .. this was me .. I was working at our rental and these are my gardening clothes and didn’t have time to change . .although I don’t normally wear a sign!  It was a tiny sign as I drew it up in my car with materials at hand.  It reads:  Grief and More to come, with little drawings of a sunflower, crying and a little bumblee … saying “help me”

14

Of course .. lots of darling little dogs attended the event.

13

Shades of Avatar …

12 11

We marched along … all together .. a peaceable group …

10

.. along the Inner Harbour, past the Empress ..
09

Interesting that it was a “no news” event .. yet see here .. lots of people

08

07

True .. it’s not nice …

06

And back at the Parliament Buildings

05 04

03

02There were many people there .. hopefully many more people will learn about the evil of genetically modified seeds.. the harm that is done to the environment, the crops, the people …..

OMG .. I’m going to start blogging again tomorrow .. lots of photos of skies, flowers, animals and also some of the March against Monsanto

Well, I was all excited and was writing away when suddenly I somehow hit a combination of keys and lost my train of thought!  choo choo train.

Anyway, I was rhapsodizing on the end of the 4 month session of yard transformation that my DH have been working on since February.

Days, weeks, months of fixing up our rental .. the house was fine but the yard was a jungle.  So we rolled up our sleeves, began the daunting task of transformation.  And now the hard work has paid off and honestly, the yard looks like House and Garden.   Grass is growing, tall perennials (cedars, myrtles, Pyracantha’s, plus a myriad of other plants).

DH has constructed a lovely sidewalk, a retaining wall, edged with white fencing and  cement stairs that lead to the grassy area.  It’s a paradise of relaxation.  I’ll post some pics.

But as everyone who has ever done this sort of thing knows full well, it doesn’t happen easily. Lots of  hard physical work, we fetched trailer after trailer of sand, navvy jack, cement, wood, you name it.  Every day we were working hard, digging, shovelling, painting.

And as of today … just a few more things to do .. and we are done, fini …

So I will have the time now to work in our own garden (oh, wow, there is so much garlic, you wouldn’t believe!) and I can post pics of potatoes that I’m growing in sacks.

So much to share and I’m looking forward to the extreme pleasure of sitting at my computer and just “talking” away!  I’ll even bring my laptop outside.  This year I purchased a new one, by golly!  So my $85 HP can take a little rest.

I have magnificent photos of skies … to share.

Anyway, must go .. finishing details and all that .. and tomorrow I’ll start blogging.

Oh, one more thing .. my pal D and I were in the May 25, Victoria, BC March against Monsanto!!!    I took a few hours away from the work at our rental to participate in this momentous activity.  Lots of people there .. and the Blue Man from Avatar was there also ..took some pics of him.

🙂  happy days to all ….

Penny Table Top – This is such a very clever idea!

I had an old wood table that I was embarrassed about as the top was cracked. Most old side tables, stands, end tables get most of the wear and tear on the flat surfaces.

via Penny Table Top.

I was looking for organic methods to remove buttercups from the garden .. and .. in that wandering way of searching for information .. I found this treasure!

Now that pennies are slowly being removed from daily transactions …. and I for one will be keeping all of mine … I relish such wonderful creative ideas such as this one!!!

A lovely sunny, rainy and hailing kind of a day. I purchased my first Mason Bee house (and .. um .. more plants!)

Saturday, April 13, 2013

Yesterday was so much fun .. wandering around the Fernwood & Haultain neighbourhoods with my pal D … she knows the area so well and thus we walked up many little pathways and shortcuts that I was quite lost.  So in a way, it felt as if I was on a holiday in another town or country and all was new.  Quite energizing.

So when I got home, mid-afternoon, I had a little think about the choices that I had in the rainy afternoon.  Well, number one, it was rainy so I wasn’t excited about working outside and getting all muddy.

That left indoor stuff.  Made a pot of tea, pondered, read further on my Ruth Rendell novel “Kissing the Gunner’s Daughter” … really just wanted to finish this exciting mystery, but it is daylight so I really “should” be doing something.

Thought about working away on my decluttering.  Then decided to put the milk from my tea away to the fridge.  Opened the fridge door .. noticed that there were a few items that were ready for the compost, so I started that activity.  While I was transferring the veggie items to the compost pail, I wondered, curiously  …. if others have this same hobby.  Of purchasing fresh veggies for the compost and just put them in the fridge for a little while till they are in just the right stage for the compost bin?  Just wondering, that’s all.

While looking through the fridge I found a large bowl of peeled potatoes.  I’d purchased some organic potatoes awhile ago and since they were starting to sport buds on the surface, decided to peel them and cook “later” … helloooo .. it’s later now!

D and I had been talking about potatoes and she mentioned that she’d shred potatoes and make hash potato patties for her family and this was a portable snack for walks.  Well, thinks I .. I’ll try that.

Started off with shredding the potatoes with a grater, now that was a bit messy.  So I climbed onto a kitchen chair and brought down the kitchen processor to do the job.  Once all the bits were assembled and the machine plugged .. I started the task of shredding the potatoes.  Next step involved attempting to remove the excess water.  By this point I had realized that these little red skinned potatoes were not the right type for hash browns, but I’m too far gone in the process to stop.  Sliced up red onions and garlic, added to butter sizzling in an iron fry pan and proceeded to cook a gigantic patty.    After (quite) a while, the potatoes were done and very tasty, thank you very much.

I still had about 2 cups of mushy shredded raw potato left, so fetched a container of organic chicken broth, into  a Corningware pot it went, along with the potato mixture.  Searched through the fridge and found a lovely bag of carrots purchased at Dan’s Market.   These carrots were just delicious!  Also discovered some celery, so sliced up ample amounts of both of these and into the pot.  Next I found a bag of dry curry leaves that I had bought a few months ago.  Popped in 5 or 6 of them into the soup.  Yum

Now I was on a roll and decided to make a little carrot salad, so out comes the fine hand grater and soon I had a little bowl of very thin  strips of carrot, topped this off with finely chopped celery, a drizzle of flax oil and this tasted so delicious that I had two (tiny) bowls of salad.

My inner chef was very creative and I bow to her!  I’ve noticed that my cooking is very creative when I’ve tapped into my creative energy and this is so rewarding!

Sorry, no photos, I was thinking of taking photos to share, but that would have stopped my creative flow.  So just visualize very pretty attractive food dishes and you’ll be right!

On with today!  I’d taken some Rosemary cuttings months ago, added EM to the water and patiently waiting for them to root, and most of them have.  Passing by the kitchen counter, something different caught my eye and I returned to have a look .. and saw these oh so very dainty little Rosemary flowers on a cutting that had just the tiniest bit of root.  Magic, sheer magic.

`

New additions for my garden, purchased two of these lovely plants at Country Grocer at Royal Oak.   I’ve been finding all kinds of wonderful new plants …. supplied by local and Vancouver Island Growers .. how lovely!   I’ve not grown these before and Hummingbirds are supposed to love them.  I’ll take photos in the summer.

13

There was a bit of a hail storm, well, several, actually … throughout the day.

14

I went to the North Saanich Farmers Market today .. it’s once a month for now, soon to be twice a month and in June, yea, every Saturday.  It was my first visit today.  I was on a quest to purchase some Musquee de Provence seeds from Tina at Alden Harvest.  She’d completely sold out of these seeds at Seedy Saturday .. but she saved 6 for me and thus I paid for them .. these are my newest “precious” seeds. I’ll plant 4 and save 2.  Looking forward to taking photos of them this summer.

At the market, I purchased this most lovely Mason Bee house .. isn’t this great?  The little bees are in the top section (see the hole where they can fly out) and soon they will hatch and be busy little bees in our yard.  This style will be very easy to maintain.

11

Now for some yard fun, I perched the Mason house on the rustic tree trunk and beside it I placed this funky bell-ringer (from one of our thrift store ventures, when D & I buy things that we don’t really need, but, heck, they are fun).  Not sure if you can see the hummingbird design that is part of the bell-ringer.  I still have to decide where I’m going to install this, but the meantime, this looks good.   Doesn’t it appear as if the Masons have a doorbell?   Or have I had too much fresh air today .. ha ha ha

12

I was surprised to see an actual outdoor telephone, at the Deep Cove store, as these pay phones simply don’t exist much anymore.  Nice to see.

8

Good storage, plain and simple.7

Inside the washroom … I just had to take these pictures of the crows …. as I seem to be on a theme of crows right now .. time to share.6

Have you ever wondered what you were going to do with that spare set of cupboard doors?   Well, wonder no longer.5

et voila …4

and again ..3

Lovely wooden walkway outside the store .. old-fashioned, friendly and relaxing, don’t you think..2

I fell in love with this pot of wild strawberries, they’ll have small golden fruits.

10

These artichokes will occupy a fair bit of land so I’ll put some of them in pots.9

It’s been a fun day .. I’ve travelled in the city, out to North and then Central Saanich and had lots of fun …. talked to quite a few people.  Experienced the relaxed and creative atmosphere of the North Saanich Market.  I bought the world’s most delicious butter tart square there .. omg .. so very delicious that I will definitely return to buy another in May!

The weather has been:   sunny;  rainy;  hailing …. quite a mix and quite lovely for all the plants in our yard.

🙂

Feels great to be tapping on the keyboard again .. and I’m sharing some of the lovely sights I’ve seen today! Oh, there is more, much more!

Friday, April 12, 2013

Funny how time just flies when life is just rolling along, similar to a nonstop whirling round and round and round and I just want to stop!  🙂

Times were kinda slow at the beginning of the year .. I was focused on getting fit for the summer by going for very long walks and exercising.  Then our lovely tenants had to move and my focus totally changed and I stopped my lovely exercise regime and DH and I began the task of preparing our sunny rental into a home for new tenants. This involved (me) scrubbing and repainting all the rooms and cupboards and DH worked on the hard-scaping and landscaping (a huge job).

The task is slowly nearing the end.  I’ve kept track of our daily adventures and although it seems a very long time ago (beginning of February) as I look over my notes I remember the forgotten tasks.  Selecting and taking home 8 huge cedar trees from the grower’s fields (oh wow they were tremendously heavy).  Together DH & I carefully unloaded one tree at a time from a lovely trailer that a friend lent us.   I love this trailer.  Anyway, we’d carefully put one cedar on a tarp and made a pathway of other tarps so we could (ever so slowly) slide one cedar at a time to the back yard.  Where we’d dug deep holes for them.   Added some magical organic fertilizer to assist the roots in their growth.

And I won’t bore you with the other details.  About how I (ahem) transported one ton of nave-jack from the trailer at the front of the house  by shovelling 7 scoops at a time (this stuff is very very heavy)  into my trusty new yard cart and made a bazillion trips, slowly, walking backwards to the yard and slowly created a mini mountain from which my DH would scoop some with bags of cement into the cement mixer and began the creation of a sidewalk.  Similar with the heavy sand for the base of the sidewalk.

So exhausted I just didn’t have the creative energy to post anything .. so have decided to get back in the habit of that.

We still have a way to go before the yard is finished, but, since we both have other projects on the go .. we have been taking a few days away from yard transformations and I have had the joy of spending a few days in our own yard.

So a few days ago, I was digging out weeds and bluebells from the back side-garden, when what did I see!    This was growing up from under a large rock, which I rolled away so I could get at these precious bulbs, you can see the indentation below.

02

Somehow I missed digging up a few garlic bulbs, how on earth could I have missed them!  And  so they grew and so I dug them up.   All planted now amongst the flowers and I will keep a sharp eye on them this summer!

03

Really, I haven’t a clue as to what this mystery plant is .. must have planted it last year, no tag, tsk tsk!

04

We had sun for a day .. sigh

06

So I took some time out and just stood there, staring up at this beautiful sky …

05

The manner in which this little leaf was laid ever so carefully on a branch of the tree reminded me of laundry hung out to dry, perhaps one of the wee little garden sprites had been busy and had forgotten to bring in this leaf or .. perhaps I startled them and they disappeared!

01

So today .. I went to visit my pal D, for tea in one of her fancy tea cups.  She has quite a beautiful collection of the most dainty beautiful items.  Doesn’t this look so pretty .. and creative?   Well, you are right, it was!

07

After a few hours of sipping and nibbling at the cashew mixture and a delicious sourdough sandwich, we decided to go for a walk in the rain.

And thus I began to learn more about the little neighbourhoods of Fernwood and area .. here is a pathway at Bowker Creek (blush, I hadn’t visited this area before!)

12

This magnificent and majestic Willow tree rising out of the creek bed was an Avatar moment for me.

13

Another surprise was the sight of this Eucalyptus tree, regrowth from the base of the seemingly dead trunk!  Lovely.

15

Many many burls on this massive tree ..

17

Someone had placed a live tree in the centre of this trunk ..look at the size .. how old this tree must have been …

11

Look, D said .. see what joins these houses together!   Solid rock that wasn’t blasted away when the houses were built!  Solid foundations!

14

Gigantic Rosemary .. taller than D . . to the left!

09

When I saw the size of this Flowering Red Currant (so enamoured by Hummingbirds) I began to rethink where I was going to plant the 3 that I have at home!

10

Ha ha .. tucked away in the front yard of one home .. the crow was chilly and so wore his toque and scarf today!

08

Two similar houses ..one all prettied up and the other … sadly neglected .. mirror images..

19

And some lovely little homes:

2018

I so totally fell in love with this one!  D told me that new owners had changed the yard from neatly trimmed lawns to this current wildly artistic happy yard.  We saw two cats sleeping on the front porch.  In the back there is another small home plus several little buildings.     This is the most fascinatingly magnificent home and yard I have ever seen.

16

Well .. after this most lovely long walk … my first in a long time .. I felt my happy creative energy start to flow .. my goal now is to emulate the happy carefree spirit of this yard above …

Back home .. I found myself creating lovely foods for supper .. it all started as I began to clear out the fridge .. but I’ll share those happy items tomorrow!

Feels great to be back blogging again …. 🙂

I cannot believe that this is happening … GM alfalfa in Canada? No .. speak up on April 9

Woke up this morning … checked my e-mail .. found a message regarding Monsanto introducing GM alfalfa! to Canada!!  The Federal government’s Agriculture Secretary has decided to allow this.

As everyone knows, this will kill organic farmers and will ruin their farms.

We don’t want and we don’t need this.

There will be a day of protest ….April 9.

Scary and must be stopped …   watch his video .. if you aren’t aware of the evil of Mosanto ad GNM .. this will shed some light on what actually happens.

do you know what happens to guide dogs (of all types) when their usefulness is finished?

I’ve been wanting to blog for weeks, I have so much to say and so many wonderful photos to share!  But .. the big but!!  DH and I have been busy, busy, busy, preparing our little rental for new tenants.   Mainly landscaping and sheer hard labour .. but enough about that.

I had an interesting conversation with neighbours today.   They were out for a walk with their lovely grand-babies and their grand-dog.  So we fell into conversation about this magnificent black Lab.   He was not very old … but he’d had a full life of service for a disabled person.

Dogs like this are the closest to angels on earth in my opinion.

As our conversation continued, I learned that this little dog had been on duty, 24-7 for someone, working around the clock for their every need.  For years.  And absolutely no time off.  And I learned that it is common, for dogs worked as hard as this one had been .. to simply burn out at approximately the age of 4.   Working dogs for services like police, for example, are treated much better.  They work a normal day, then they are “off duty” and they get the chance to play.  Resulting in a more well-rounded dog.  Like people, dogs need to play.

Now .. here is where I learned more information that I didn’t like.   This little dog suffered “burnout” and just couldn’t work anymore.   Can you blame him?  Working every minute of every day, without the opportunity to go off duty and just play … he lost all will to serve.  I would too.

So guess what was going to happen to this lovely hard working dog.  He was going to be euthanized.  Because he was from Ontario, from a private group that trained these dogs … he was considered to be “private property” and he wasn’t allowed to be given to anyone, no way, no how.  I felt just sick.  How could this be?   He’d worked hard and he deserved the right to just be a dog.

Well, the new owner had to go backwards, through hoops.  Even though she is a registered veterinarian .. she had to sign a mountain of forms just to prove, legally, that she would not breed the dog, sell the dog, give away the dog.

Now .. I feel the need to check with these private organizations to see what their policies are, with regards to how the dogs are treated after their service is finished.

Are they re-homed?  Or are they … simply done away with?

Time to find out what happens to these angels who deserve the right to live a happy healthy life after their service.

Anyway, that’s my rant for the day.

I do plan to write about the lovely wedding we went to a few weeks ago.  Post photos of the lovely dogs I’ve been meeting.  And just chatter away about my garden.  Oh .. and my garlic … is going to be stupendous this year!   A few days ago I carefully placed seaweed around all but bulbs … they look so pretty.   D and I went seaweeding again!  More about that in a few days or so!

Happy gardening!

Yesterday was so much fun .. and I attended my first ever Soccer Game!!

Sunday, February 24, 2013

So very much going on and I’ve really wanted to blog but my life has been proceeding along like one of those crazy Family Circle cartoons .. the one which shows the kids racing all over the house and outside.  Leaving a trail of marks that indicate foot prints, showing the directions they have been going in.

Well .. that is what happens in life, right?   Everything is calm and then .. ba boom!  Activity happens.  I’m taking care of two yard properties and doing a lot of clearing away, decluttering.  Cleaning.  All in a timeline and so for several weeks I haven’t taken my daily walks and oh how I miss them.

That will change as of tomorrow … when I recommence my lovely daily walks and so I’m dusting off my camera, polishing off my binoculars and will venture out for a “short” one hour walk.

A few days ago … I had a little visit with little Jeanie .. she is such a little love and hasn’t forgotten the sound of my voice, even though it’s been quite a while since we saw each other.  She is a darling and was wearing a very stylish plum coloured outfit … isn’t she beautiful?

05

And lovely skies recently .. I quite loved this cloud .. seen as we were travelling by ferry to Salt Spring Island yesterday.

08

We recently had some intensive tree work done and I finally had a chance to see the professional climbing equipment that our friend, the arborist, used to climb the tall trees.   Those are serious hooks and very necessary to ensure safety during the climb.

2

And I was very happy that he brought along little Gemma!   Here she is sitting quietly after eagerly chowing down on a huge chicken sandwich.  burp   We’d just come back for a good little walk and had worked up an appetite.

03

Yum .. that was a good sandwich, she seemed to say .. would there be the possibility of another?

04

So anyway dh & I arrived at Salt Spring and made our way to visit our friends who live over there.     And look at this sky!!!

23

After a lovely cup of tea .. we went outside to see what was happening in the yard .. and I noticed a cheery little crocus that had popped up through the moss .. delightful.

11

And there were . … literally .. thousands of daffodils growing everywhere … maybe we’ll have a chance to go for another visit so I can take some photos of their blooms!  Stunning.

09

And .. not to mention … masses of snowdrops … like bouquets scattered here and there.   Landscaping by Nature .. the best ever.

07

And while I was standing there, quietly, snapping pics, a sudden movement at my feet caused me to look down and there was a tiny little tree frog …he’d jumped up from the grass .. seeking warmth from the stones.  How very cute is this!

12

The rustic beauty of the fence caught my eye.

10

So then our friends invited us to a soccer match .. I’d never been to one and so was looking forward to this.   Here … the Salt Spring Island Men’s team were getting ready to start the game.

14

They went into the pre-game huddle to plan their strategy.

19

The games officials began their trek to the field.

15

Ouch .. this is a really physical game.  The players were extremely active, running, jumping, racing … I was quite tired just looking at them!

21

And our friend’s son was playing!  He’s a very good soccer player!!

17 16

Our dear friend Gemma came along to watch the game with everyone.

18

The cheerful skies above seemed to cheer on the SSI team as the score was 2-0 when we left … to catch another ferry ..22

As the ferry left the terminal .. this little seagull just waited patiently to see us away.

26

It was a lovely day .. .and now we were on our way to a wedding!!  More about that tomorrow.

Why I take the photos that I do … Well .. here are some of the reasons!

Saturday, February 9, 2013

There is so very much beauty in this world …. everywhere …up above in the sky.  Scenery.  Trees. Birds.  And photos of these all make the most loveliest of memories for later on.

Such as this tiny bird, perched, ever so briefly, on a branch (I think this is a Golden-crowned Kinglet).  I was out walking and surprised to see a few of these darlings twittering about the tree.  They didn’t stay still for very long, so I was lucky to get this pic.

01

And a surprise entry pathway that I’d not noticed before.  It was only due to the fact that I chose another route to my destination and discovered this one.

09

The joy of walking along an undiscovered route heightens the enjoyment of my lovely daily walks.12

And the overhead canopy of branches seem to delicately and gently welcome me along the way.  Soon these will be wearing their summer finery and provide shade from the summer’s heat.10Imagine, this pathway was here all along and I’m happily making my way …the highway and sidewalk are way to the left and while people are busily starting their busy trips to work and shopping, I’m quietly discovering more of Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary!!

08

After a few minutes I found myself actually at the allotment gardens, a good opportunity to see these plots up close, so I opened the gate and went in.

13

So this is, I believe, part of Swan Creek .. lots of water and the reason for the bridge (above) 🙂

14

This area is vast .. so beautiful to see unique gardening plots .. lots of work.

05

Each gardener has their own unique way of gardening.  Variety, as you know …04

Along the way, I’d gone shopping at Thrifty Foods .. and my visit was made much better by the lovely daffodil that I was given!  It was a surprise and I felt great just walking along with this bright and cheerful flower nodding along in my shopping bag.  So, I just had to stop and take a photo.

16

I liked the look of the mossy covered tree trunks.  But just looking at this picture with Saturday morning eyes .. I think they also resemble great big giant legs with mossy green slippers!  Just squint your eyes a little and you’ll see what I mean.

02

I wonder if the Downy woodpecker is thinking about gathering some moss for a spring nest.  Or perhaps something else has caught her attention?

07For now, though, time to dine!

06Now .. this chubby little Robin .. is quite the robust little bird, isn’t he?  Dining al fresco on an apple nested snugly in the branches.

22

Then he (she) is gone .. leaving the apple for other birds to dine on.  They aren’t greedy.

18

Walking downtown, here is this great, gnarly tree, outside of St. Andrew’s Cathedral.  Talk about character .. gadzooks!

20

And the remainder of a delicate little frost.  Not heavy enough to freeze the water so the birds can still sip.  Grateful for the lack of snow which is causing misery throughout the rest of Canada.

19

And sometimes I take pictures like it’s my lifelong ambition to capture every single moment of activity around me.   Sometimes, if I’m visiting someplace new to me .. I want to capture the feel of the place.  What it looks like, sounds like, feels like.

Wanting to remember the crunching sounds made by my shoes as I walk on a gravel topped pathway, mixed in with those sounds are the lovely pine scent of the nearby conifers, the cheerful chirping of birds hidden from sight.

When I see the lovely dogs, stop and have a chat with their owners … seeing the happy faces of well-loved pets … brings joy to my spirit.

These are some of the reasons why I take the photos that I do.

But .. Saturday rushes in and I have lots to do today .. .no time for a walk .. that decadent treat will have to wait for another day.

🙂
